Welcome back, fellow travelers! As promised, this month we’re taking a deeper dive into the key areas that fuel your internal drive and motivation. Our first stop is Belief Boulevard. Here, we’ll peel back the onion to check out the core beliefs fueling your drive. Understanding your internal beliefs through observation, awareness, and self-reflection helps you uncover what truly motivates you and can highlight areas where you may find that your beliefs no longer align with your Truth. This exploration is crucial for ensuring your engine runs smoothly and efficiently.
Why Beliefs Matter
Your beliefs are like the engine oil that keeps everything running in life. If you don’t take time to check your beliefs throughout your life and to change old beliefs where needed, then you will likely rust out, your engine will stop humming, and you’ll lose touch with your true self. Beliefs are critical to understand because they not only influence your thoughts, decisions, and actions, they determine your mindset and where your overall life is headed. When you are able to understand your beliefs, (where they came from, why you’re following them and how they influence or control your life), you’ll be able to determine which beliefs should stay and which should go.
Taking Your Beliefs for a Test Drive
Reflection and awareness are the first steps in peeling back the layers and understanding your internal landscape. Here are a few considerations and questions to keep in mind:
You’re Not the Same Person as Yesterday…
You’re not the same person as yesterday, or last week, or last year (or whatever the timeframe may be). You are growing, learning and evolving each and every day from different experiences and happenings in life. As you grow and evolve, it is likely that your beliefs and perhaps your outlook on life will also shift or change. You may outgrow some beliefs or simply move on from others because they no longer serve your highest purpose. Be open to understanding how you’re evolving and what no longer serves who you are today in this moment.
Understand your Beliefs and your Truth
When your beliefs match your heart center, you’ll experience a sense of peace, harmony and ease. When you find yourself in a place of feeling stuck, unfulfilled, frustrated or constantly at odds with yourself or others, this is when you need to ask yourself if what you’re doing or saying is aligned with your Truth. Ask yourself if your beliefs are aligned with your Truth in this current moment?
What are your core beliefs?
Take some time to identify what you’re following in life and if you’re following the same as everyone else. Are you adhering to the crowd of people around you simply because it’s easier to do so? Or because you feel as though you fit in from an outside perspective, however, feel alone on the inside because what you’re following doesn’t resonate within your heart?
How do your current actions reflect your Truth?
Reflect on your daily experiences, as well as your decisions and habits. Are they in line with your core values, or your Truth, or is there a disconnect?
Uncovering True Motivation
Consider the beliefs that have been passed down to you from family, friends, or society. So often we all think we are supposed to follow the beliefs of our parents or those around us whom we trust and love. Just because you have love and trust with others, doesn’t mean you will have the same beliefs within your heart. Everyone is on their own journey, so be sure to understand yourself and your journey.
Here are a few perspectives:
Beliefs Driven by Fear: Do you want to pay attention to all of the things going on with you in order to help yourself? It really is a “yes” or a “no.” And it’s not a “I don’t have time.” If you don’t want to put forth the effort to understand yourself, then things remain status quo. You’ll continue moving forward with beliefs driven by lack or fear. Peel back the layers of every single belief in your life.
Wake Up and Shake Up Your Beliefs: If you aren’t willing to consciously look at your thoughts, feelings, actions, words, reactions, how can you live a more fulfilling, loving, positive life, which is more aligned with your true self? You can’t make improvements where you need them, if you aren’t even conscious of them, or if you don’t invest in yourself.
Your Choice: Regularly check-in with yourself. Take time to observe your day and everything about yourself. Are you following the herd of cattle simply because that’s where everyone else is going? Do you know where that herd is headed to? Have you asked anyone? Does anyone even have an answer for you? Chances are you are following the herd (crowd) simply because you have a belief that if that’s where everyone is going, then you should be going there too. STOP! Figure out “where” they are going and then decide if it aligns with your Truth.
The Benefits of Alignment and Tuning Your Beliefs
When your beliefs are aligned with your Truth, you experience several benefits:
More Ease and Flow: You’ll find that things just miraculously flow and are much easier to work through
Enhanced Well-being: You’ll feel a greater sense of oneness, fulfillment and happiness because you’re following your heart and alignment is clear
Increased Empowerment: You’ll feel a sense of greater empowerment; your heart is singing and energized; you feel as though you can achieve anything your heart desires. You feel more aligned with where your internal source of wisdom is guiding you.
Remember, understanding your Truth and your internal wisdom, through evaluating and checking if your beliefs are still in alignment with “you,” is a very powerful tool for finding your way through life’s journey and ensuring your internal engine runs smoothly.
So, let’s keep moving forward. Fill up your tank, and stay tuned as we continue our journey of understanding yourself fully.
